Scientific evidence

Over 20 years of experimental research on the biological impact of light radiation on the human retina.

20+ years of research

The reality of high-energy light

The human visual system evolved to interpret light reflected off objects — never to stare directly at an intense, close-range emission source.

Modern technology has broken that biological rule. We spend more than 8 hours a day exposed to direct LED radiation — with spikes in blue light (380–500 nm) and high-energy green light (500–590 nm) — creating an overexposure scenario our eyes were never designed for.

Unlike skin, the retina has no ability to regenerate. UCM research describes cumulative effects of high-energy light on retinal cells that are irreversible.

Devices comply with current regulations — but those regulations are outdated. They were designed for brief exposures, not the chronic, repetitive use that defines our digital reality. reticare® has been developing optical filters to reduce that exposure for over 20 years.

hurts nothing and warns no one

UCM research describes the effects of high-energy blue light (380–500 nm) and high-energy green light (500–590 nm) on retinal cells. The damage is cumulative and affects neurons of the central nervous system. It causes no pain.

Ignored for decades, UCM in vivo and in vitro research describes real oxidative stress in retinal cells under prolonged exposure to this range. reticare® is the only technology that reduces both spectral bands.

20 years of scientific research

Dr. Celia Sánchez-Ramos

The science behind reticare® was born at the university

Dr. Celia Sánchez-Ramos, researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid, has spent more than two decades studying the impact of light radiation on the human retina.

Her research — conducted in vivo and in vitro and published in internationally indexed scientific journals — is the foundation of all reticare® technology. This isn't an accessory. It's applied science with an international patent.

01

Blue light (380–500 nm) — described effects on retinal cells

UCM research describes oxidative stress and photoreceptor cell damage in high-energy blue light exposure models, studied in vitro and in vivo with animal and human donor cells.

02

Green light (500–590 nm) — cumulative effects under study

Ignored for decades, UCM research describes real oxidative stress in retinal cells under prolonged exposure to high-energy green light. reticare® is the only technology that reduces both spectral bands.

03

Optical filter behavior — studied in vitro and in vivo

UCM studies describe, in in vitro and in vivo models, the behavior of selective optical filters against high-energy spectra (380–590 nm) and their effect on photoreceptor cell survival rates.

04

Optical filter behavior under continuous use

UCM studies describe filter behavior under chronic exposure and real daily use (Sánchez-Ramos et al., Cells, 2021). The optical filter is stable under prolonged, repetitive screen exposure.

Our reason for being

From scientific evidence
to real reduction

reticare® was built to turn decades of scientific research into real-world optical solutions. We don't design accessories. We apply science.

01

Optical function, not cosmetic

Every product is designed under biomedical criteria, with optical filter behavior studied in vivo and in vitro at UCM. Form follows function — always.
